TECO HK Microwave

The TECO HK Series microwave consistency transmitters offer a versatile, safe, and cost-effective solution for measuring the consistency of paper stock, including broke, recycled, or other challenging fiber types. The system is unaffected by variations in fiber length, freeness, flow rate, or wood species.

At typically less than half the cost of other microwave transmitters, the HK Series can measure both the percentage of total solids in water-based additives and the moisture content in wood chips—using the same transmitter.

Each HK unit consists of a transmitter and an antenna body. Depending on the model, these can be configured as a single integrated unit or with a remotely mounted transmitter—ideal for harsh or high-vibration environments. The antenna body is available in fixed or adjustable configurations, allowing operators to optimize sensitivity based on process conditions. A non-intrusive configuration is also available.

Applications

Designed for broad application flexibility, the HK Series can be installed in process pipes, tanks, chests, or even positioned to measure stock on conveyors and chutes. Each unit includes a Pt RTD for temperature compensation and can be optionally equipped with a display for local or remote monitoring.

Measurement of Pulp Stock Consistency

The TECO HK-1 Series Microwave consistency transmitter was installed on an 8 inch vertical pipe. The insertion sensors were installed using a stainless steel flange. An RTD was also installed for temperature compensation. The TECO HK-1 system was installed side by side with a Kijanni microwave transmitter.

As is seen in the graph below, there is a high degree of correlation between the Kijanni microwave instrument and the TECO HK-1 microwave unit.

Measurement of Percent Total Solids of Gypsum in Water

The TECO HK-1 Series Microwave consistency transmitter was installed on an 8 inch horizontal pipe. For easy installation, the insertion sensors were installed directly on the pipe using threaded half couplings. An RTD was also installed for temperature compensation.

Process samples were collected over a one month period. Each sample was submitted for lab analysis, and, at the same time, readings of the process by the TECO HK Series microwave unit were recorded. Lab samples were evaluated by drying, and percent total solids compared to the readings recorded from the TECO HK Series microwave unit.

As is seen in the graph below, there is a high degree of correlation between the lab values for % Total Solids and the readings of the TECO HK Series microwave unit.
